In an unfortunate incident, a SpiceJet flight from Darbhanga to Mumbai was compelled to make an emergency landing in Varanasi following the sudden demise of an elderly passenger mid-air.
The deceased, identified as 85-year-old Kalawati Devi, was traveling with her grandson aboard SpiceJet flight SG 116. The flight, which took off from Darbhanga airport at 5:40 p.m. on Monday, encountered a distressing situation as the health of Kalawati Devi worsened during the journey.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, and with the aircraft nearing the airspace of Uttar Pradesh, the pilot promptly sought permission for an emergency landing from the Air Traffic Control (ATC) in Varanasi. The emergency landing was executed at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi at 6 p.m.
Upon landing, the elderly passenger was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital. Tragically, the medical professionals at the hospital declared Kalawati Devi deceased. Subsequently, the flight resumed its course to Mumbai, departing from Varanasi at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
This unforeseen incident highlights the challenges and complexities that can arise during air travel, necessitating swift and decisive actions by airline crews to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers.
