Etihad to upgrade Kolkata route with Airbus A321LR

Etihad Airways will introduce the Airbus A321LR on its Abu Dhabi–Kolkata route starting September 26, 2025, as part of its fleet enhancement plan in India.

Route upgrade details

The daily service between Zayed International Airport (AUH) and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) will be operated using the new-generation aircraft.

The A321LR brings improved passenger experience with features such as lie-flat seats in Business Class, upgraded Economy seating, and in-flight Wi-Fi.

The aircraft also includes a small First Class section, equipped with forward-facing fully-flat beds in a 1-1 layout. Business Class offers 14 lie-flat seats, while the Economy cabin features 4K touchscreens and modern entertainment systems.

Etihad’s focus on India

Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, said: “India is a key market for Etihad, and we are delighted to elevate our Kolkata service with our latest A321LR aircraft. With this upgrade, our guests can now enjoy a superior travel experience, whether in our luxurious First Suites, Business Class lie-flat seats, or next-generation Economy cabin. This investment underlines our ongoing commitment to providing world-class service and greater connectivity across the Indian subcontinent.”

Etihad currently operates flights to several cities across India. The airline says the A321LR will bring wide-body comfort to its medium-haul operations while improving fuel efficiency.

Strengthening regional ties

The aircraft upgrade is seen as part of Etihad’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in key South Asian markets. The route offers both leisure and business travellers in India improved access to Etihad’s global network through Abu Dhabi.

Fares are available in dirhams, and bookings for the updated service can be made through Etihad’s website and travel agents.
