Etihad announces free extra baggage and early check-in options for Eid travellers

Etihad Airways is preparing for higher passenger traffic during the Eid al-Adha holidays and summer travel season as demand increases across its international network.

The airline has introduced several travel services and seasonal benefits aimed at reducing airport wait times and improving the travel experience for passengers flying from or through Abu Dhabi.

Check-in options

Between May 19 and August 16, passengers using Etihad’s City Check-In facilities in Abu Dhabi through the Morafiq app or website for Dhs40 per person will receive 1,000 Etihad Guest Miles and an additional 3kg baggage allowance.

The city check-in locations are available at Cruise Terminal 1, Mussafah, Madinat Zayed and Lulu Hypermarket in Al Ain. Travellers can check in and drop off baggage up to 24 hours before departure.

Passengers using the Home Check-In service in Abu Dhabi during the same period will receive the same benefits. The service allows travellers to complete check-in from their home, hotel or office, including baggage collection and boarding pass delivery.

Etihad also continues to offer early baggage drop services at Zayed International Airport up to 24 hours before departure, and up to 12 hours before flights to the United States.

Extra baggage

Passengers checking in at Zayed International Airport during selected off-peak hours will receive an extra 3kg baggage allowance.

The eligible timings are from 9:30am to 11:30am, 2:30pm to 6:30pm, 9:30pm to 11:30pm, and 2:30am to 6:30am.

Travel advice

Etihad has advised passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before departure during the holiday period.

The airline also encouraged travellers to use its mobile app for online check-in, digital boarding passes, flight updates and baggage tracking on selected routes.

Passengers have also been reminded to follow baggage regulations, including carrying power banks, smart bags with removable batteries and e-smoking devices in cabin baggage only.

Abu Dhabi offers

Travellers visiting or transiting through Abu Dhabi can also use the Abu Dhabi Pass, which includes discounts at attractions, restaurants and leisure destinations across the emirate.

The pass also offers access to deals at locations including Louvre Abu Dhabi, Qasr Al Watan and selected Yas Island attractions, along with a complimentary SIM or eSIM with data.
