Etihad Airways has announced the expansion of its fleet with a significant order for 28 wide-body Boeing aircraft. This is part of the airline’s strategy to double its size by 2030, aligning its fleet with the evolving demands of its network and operations.
New aircraft on the horizon
The deal includes a mix of Boeing 787 and 777X aircraft, which will be powered by GE engines and come with a comprehensive service package.
These aircraft are expected to join the airline’s fleet starting in 2028, supporting Etihad’s growth in connectivity, operational efficiency, and customer experience.
A strategic move for future growth
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, highlighted the strategic importance of this move, saying, “This commitment reflects our approach of carefully managing our fleet and expanding in line with demand and our long-term network plans. Since 2023, we’ve made consistent additions to our fleet, and this latest step ensures we continue to meet our future requirements.”
Supporting the UAE economy
The new aircraft order is a part of a broader strategy to position Etihad for long-term success. Neves also noted that the addition underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to investing in aviation, which plays a critical role in enhancing connectivity, tourism, and trade. “Etihad’s continued growth supports broader economic opportunity in the UAE and beyond,” he added.
Etihad is also finalising a detailed roadmap that will guide its strategy through to 2035, with these aircraft playing a key role in ensuring the airline remains competitive and customer-focused in the years to come.
