Dubai ranks world's cleanest city for fifth consecutive year

Dubai has been recognized as the cleanest city in the world, according to the latest Global Power City Index (GPCI) report from the Mori Memorial Foundation in Japan.

This is the fifth year in a row that Dubai has earned this prestigious title, highlighting its commitment to maintaining a clean and sustainable environment.

A commitment to cleanliness and sustainability

Dubai’s success in maintaining its top position reflects the city’s dedication to urban development that meets the highest international standards. The city ranked first in cleanliness among over 47 cities worldwide, achieving a perfect score in the “environment” category. This is thanks to the ongoing efforts of Dubai Municipality and its partners in both the public and private sectors.

As part of its long-term vision, Dubai has implemented the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, which aims to reduce waste production by 18% and ensure that 100% of waste is diverted from landfills by 2041. These initiatives are part of Dubai’s broader efforts to lead in sustainability and improve the quality of life for its residents.

How Dubai maintains its cleanliness

Dubai Municipality plays a central role in keeping the city clean with the help of over 3,200 team members, including engineers, supervisors, and monitors. Together, they work year-round to keep Dubai’s streets, roads, and public spaces spotless. This involves cleaning 2,400 kilometers of roads, managing waste in 1,419 square kilometers of investment zones, and maintaining the city’s water canals.

The municipality also uses more than 850 vehicles and advanced equipment to ensure smooth operations every day. They also use smart systems and electric vehicles to help with waste collection and reduce the city’s carbon footprint, ensuring that Dubai remains at the forefront of sustainable urban living.

Dubai’s vision for the future

According to Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, the city’s continued success is driven by its ambitious vision to be the best place to live and work in the world. He credits Dubai’s achievements to the leadership’s dedication and the teamwork of its public and private sector partners.

The Municipality’s work not only ensures a cleaner city but also contributes to making Dubai one of the most sustainable cities globally, improving residents’ happiness, and preserving natural resources for future generations.
