The DP World ILT20 Season 3 concluded on February 9 with Dubai Capitals crowned champions after a thrilling final. Dubai chased down 190 runs set by Desert Vipers with four balls to spare, securing an exciting victory in front of a packed stadium.
Record-breaking season of DP World ILT20
David White, CEO of DP World ILT20, praised the high level of competition. “The excitement, world-class players, and matches going down to the wire have been a big step up in quality,” he said. This season saw 430 sixes and 10,352 runs, setting new records for the league.
White also highlighted the development of team identities. “The teams are developing their own culture and competitiveness,” he added. Players’ passion and on-field intensity have elevated the tournament’s appeal.
Player achievements
Standout performances included Shai Hope (Green Belt for Best Batter), Fazalhaq Farooqi (White Belt for Best Bowler), and Sam Curran (Red Belt for MVP). Aayan Afzal Khan of Gulf Giants took 4 wickets for 16 runs, setting a new record for UAE players.
UAE players shine
Farhan Khan, Dhruv Parashar, Muhammad Rohid Khan, and Muhammad Waseem all impressed this season, showing great potential for the UAE national team.
White discussed the league’s role in community engagement. “We connect with the community through family-friendly activities and a vibrant fan zone,” he said, noting the positive impact on young players.
White believes DP World ILT20 has contributed significantly to the UAE national team’s improvement, citing their qualification for the Asia Cup and the impressive performance of young bowlers.
Bright future ahead
Looking forward, White is optimistic about the league’s growth. “We’re seeing a stable following, and social media and broadcast numbers are strong,” he said. He also foresees potential expansion into the Greater Gulf region and a higher number of UAE and Associate Member nations players in future squads.
White addressed the possibility of Indian players joining the league. “If a retired Indian player is released by BCCI and remains competitive, we would welcome them,” he concluded.
