Over the past eight months, Dubai Police reported 32 accidents due to improper use of electric bicycles and e-scooters. Regrettably, these incidents claimed five lives and resulted in 29 injuries to different road users: two severe, 14 moderate, and 13 minor.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, explained that 10,031 fines were imposed on riders of electric bicycles and e-scooters during this period.
He underscored the commitment of Dubai Police to instill traffic awareness and education amongst all road users and, consequently, decrease traffic accidents and human losses on the roads.
Guidelines For Dubai e-scooter Riders
Al Mazroui further stressed the importance of bicycle and e-scooter riders adhering to safety measures.
- Respect traffic laws
- Stick to designated paths
- Avoid roads with speeds exceeding 60 km/h
- Wear helmets
- Wear reflective jackets
- Adhere to traffic lights and other road signs
- Equip rides with bright white and reflective lights at the front
- Equip rides with bright red and reflective lights at the back
- Ensure e-scooters have functioning brakes
Al Mazroui emphasised that all road users, including drivers, passengers, and pedestrians, have the right to use the roads safely and highlighted the force’s dedication to ensuring the highest levels of compliance with traffic regulations, making the roads of the Emirate safer.
He further clarified that the Dubai Police tirelessly work towards providing road users with comfort and security through traffic control operations.
“These operations focus on reducing violations of traffic laws and apprehending reckless drivers, ultimately aiding in our objective of ensuring road safety and minimising fatality incidents,” he said.
