Have an old diamond ring at home but don’t know its value? Tanishq has introduced a service across its UAE boutiques that lets customers examine diamonds using specialist equipment and an in-store gemmologist.

A diamond ring inherited from a family member or a stone bought years ago may raise questions about its authenticity and quality. Tanishq has launched Diamond Expertise Centres (DXC) across its UAE boutiques, allowing customers to examine diamonds using specialised instruments and receive guidance from an in-store gemmologist.

Announced on October 27, 2026, the service is designed to help shoppers understand a diamond’s characteristics through direct examination rather than relying only on a certificate or verbal assurance.

Customers can bring their own diamonds, including inherited stones and jewellery purchased elsewhere, for evaluation, according to the company. They can also use the service when considering diamonds from Tanishq’s collections.

How the diamond checking service works

The Diamond Expertise Centre uses specialised instruments to help customers examine different aspects of a diamond, including whether it is natural or synthetic, its clarity, light performance and cut symmetry.

The Diamond Caratmeter checks whether a diamond is natural or synthetic, a distinction that cannot be established by looking at the stone with the naked eye alone.

The Clarity Viewer magnifies a diamond so customers can examine its internal features, known as inclusions, and compare them with the clarity grade stated on its certificate.

The LightScope demonstrates how a diamond handles light through three characteristics: brilliance, fire and scintillation. A Hearts and Arrows Viewer displays the symmetry pattern found in ideally cut round diamonds, while a Marking Viewer shows the Tanishq logo and identification number inscribed on its stones.

An in-store gemmologist guides customers through the instruments and explains what they reveal.

What Tanishq says about diamond transparency

Arun Narayan, chief executive officer of the Jewellery Division at Titan Company Limited, said the initiative builds on the brand’s earlier efforts to make jewellery verification more accessible to customers.

“The DXC applies that same conviction to diamonds. Today’s customer is far more informed, curious and involved in the buying journey than ever before, and they deserve to see the evidence themselves, not simply take a brand’s word for it. We want every customer who walks out of a Tanishq boutique to feel not just assured, but genuinely certain, because they have seen the proof themselves,” he said.

He added: “Trust, today, is no longer taken at face value. It is explored, experienced, and quietly verified. For a long time, diamonds remained outside this shift. The buying journey was guided by expertise, supported by certification, and built on reassurance. While credible, it also created distance, a diamond could be described in detail, but rarely in a way that felt immediate or truly tangible. The DXC marks the moment that distance begins to dissolve.”

Can the service tell you how much a diamond is worth?

The centre allows customers to examine a diamond’s characteristics, but this does not automatically establish its resale value.

People considering selling inherited jewellery or older diamonds should distinguish between checking a stone’s authenticity and obtaining a monetary valuation. Resale prices can depend on the diamond’s specifications, condition and market demand.

Tanishq has described the DXC as a first for the UAE market, although the claim has not been independently verified.

Where to get a diamond checked in the UAE

The Diamond Expertise Centre is available across Tanishq boutiques in the UAE. Customers can visit their nearest branch to speak with an in-store gemmologist.

The company has not specified whether charges apply when customers bring diamonds purchased elsewhere, so it is worth confirming the terms with the boutique before visiting.
