The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has announced that Kalba Beach is 75% complete, with construction expected to finish by December 2026. The 700-metre waterfront project will include 11 commercial units, restaurants, cafés, sports facilities, cycling paths and children’s play areas.
The development aims to improve leisure facilities for residents and visitors while creating new opportunities for local businesses. It will also use environmentally friendly materials and solar-powered solutions to protect Kalba’s coastal environment.
Kalba Rock Art Centre expected in 2027
Shurooq also shared an update on the Kalba Rock Art Centre, which is being developed by the Department of Public Works at the Khatm Al Melaha archaeological site. The centre is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2027.
The site features more than 400 rock engravings across 150 rock formations, showing different periods of history, from the Neolithic era to the 19th century. The centre will include exhibitions, virtual reality experiences and educational spaces for students, researchers and visitors.
The updates were announced by Shurooq CEO H.E. Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer during a telephone interview on Sharjah Broadcasting Authority’s Al Khat Al Mubasher programme.
Both projects aim to strengthen Kalba’s tourism sector while preserving its natural environment and cultural heritage. Alongside existing destinations such as Kingfisher Retreat and Nomad Sharjah Retreat, they will offer visitors more reasons to explore the city, stay longer and support local businesses.
