Residents of Al Fisht, Sharqan and Al Raffa can now register their vehicles for a new residential parking permit system introduced by Sharjah City Municipality, as the authority moves to prevent non-residents from occupying parking spaces in residential neighbourhoods.
The system is intended to reserve designated parking spaces for people living in these areas and improve parking availability around their homes. It comes alongside an inspection campaign targeting practices that affect residents, including motorists who park outside residential properties to avoid paying public parking fees.
As part of the campaign, municipal inspectors have been monitoring the neighbourhoods and alerting vehicles that do not comply with the rules. Non-resident motorists have been advised not to use residential parking spaces and warned that continued violations could lead to administrative or legal action.
Hamid Al Qaed, Director of the Public Parking Department, said the municipality is monitoring residents’ feedback and reports about the use of designated residential parking areas. A dedicated team of inspectors has been assigned to follow up on observations and violations and ensure that the spaces are used only by eligible residents.
“The use of residential parking is strictly reserved for area residents,” Al Qaed said, stressing that the measures aim to reduce inconvenience for residents while improving the appearance and traffic flow of residential neighbourhoods.
He said providing designated parking spaces around the clock would make it easier for residents to park near their homes, while discouraging random parking by non-residents would help address congestion and other problems affecting local communities.
The municipality said the residential parking initiative will be expanded to additional residential areas in the future.
How residents and visitors can register
Residents of Al Fisht, Sharqan and Al Raffa can register their vehicles through the municipality’s website. Once registered, vehicles can be identified by municipal inspectors during routine patrols and inspections.
The municipality has also introduced a system for visitors. Homeowners can register guests’ vehicles by calling 993 and providing the required details, allowing visitors to use residential parking spaces in accordance with the applicable regulations.
