While thousands of fans packed Dubai International Cricket Stadium to witness India’s thrilling win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final on Sunday, another venue in the city offered a stadium-like atmosphere — the home of UAE-based businessman Anis Sajan in Emirates Hills.
Known as “Mr. Cricket UAE,” Sajan hosted a lively watch party attended by around 100 guests, bringing together cricket lovers from both India and Pakistan.
Cricket spirit in Emirates Hills
Guests at the gathering watched the high-stakes final on a large screen, with live streaming set up to recreate the energy of being at the stadium. Cheers, music, and celebration filled the air as fans danced to every boundary, wicket, and six.
“It felt like we were right there at the stadium,” said one guest. “Everyone was on their feet, reacting to every ball.”
Anis Sajan, a long-time supporter of cricket in the UAE, said the goal was to bring people together through the shared passion for the game.
India clinches the title
India won the Asia Cup title with a five-wicket victory over Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Chasing a modest target of 147, India overcame a challenging start at 20/3, thanks to an unbeaten 69 from Tilak Varma off 53 balls.
He was supported by Shivam Dube, who contributed 33 runs, and Rinku Singh, who hit the winning runs.
Pakistan had earlier posted 146 all out, with Kuldeep Yadav taking 4 wickets for 30 runs, leading India’s bowling attack.
The final was marked by heightened tensions; Indian players refused to accept the trophy from Pakistan’s Interior Minister and Asian Cricket Council President, Mohsin Naqvi, due to recent political tensions between the two nations. This match was the first-ever India-Pakistan final in Asia Cup history.
A shared celebration
Despite the rivalry, the gathering at Anis Sajan’s home at Emirates Hills reflected unity and sportsmanship. Guests from both nations celebrated the spirit of cricket, with friendly banter, shared meals, and enthusiastic support for their teams.
“Cricket has the power to bring people together, and that’s exactly what we witnessed here,” said Sajan.
