Etihad Airways has introduced its new Airbus A321LR into commercial service, with the aircraft’s maiden flight operating today from Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport to Phuket.
The single-aisle jet is the first of 30 A321LR aircraft set to join Etihad’s fleet. The move is aimed at offering the airline’s premium service experience—typically associated with widebody aircraft—on short- and medium-haul routes.
Upgraded cabin experience
The new A321LR is equipped with redesigned interiors across all classes. It features high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi, enlarged overhead bins, and a consistent cabin design reflecting Etihad’s long-haul product.
The aircraft includes:
First suites: Two private, fully enclosed suites with flat beds, 20-inch 4K screens, wireless charging, and space for a guest.
Business class: Fourteen seats in a 1-1 herringbone layout, each with direct aisle access, 17.3-inch 4K screens, and personal storage.
Economy class: 144 ergonomic seats with 13.3-inch 4K touchscreens, USB ports, and Bluetooth pairing for headphones.
Focus on regional routes
According to the airline, the A321LR will operate on selected Asian routes initially, with further deployments planned as additional aircraft are delivered.
“The A321LR symbolises our ambition to deliver extraordinary experiences on every route we serve,” said Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways. “It allows us to bring the sophistication of our widebody cabins, including our renowned First experience, to more destinations, and to more travellers, than ever before.”
The aircraft is part of Etihad’s broader strategy to enhance travel comfort while maintaining efficiency on regional routes.
