The UAE residents are showing a growing interest in island getaways, with destinations such as Cyprus, Phuket, and Seychelles seeing a sharp rise in travel demand, according to Expedia’s newly released 2025 Island Hot List.
The report highlights that interest in island holidays among UAE travellers is up significantly, with some destinations seeing growth rates of over 200%.
UAE travel trends shift
Expedia’s data shows that travel interest from the UAE to Phuket, Thailand has increased by 210%, followed by Madagascar (+265%), Seychelles (+205%), Malta (+170%), and Cyprus (+140%) over the past year. The growing popularity of these destinations is linked to accessibility, affordability, and off-season appeal.
The Island Hot List is compiled using global and regional travel data, analysing factors such as accommodation quality, air connectivity, weather, safety, and real traveller reviews.

Travel tips and timing
According to Expedia, September is generally the best month to travel to most islands, offering favourable weather and better prices, though this excludes Caribbean islands during hurricane season. Off-season travel can reduce accommodation prices by up to 50%.
Travellers are also encouraged to use tools like price tracking to monitor flight costs and consider bundled packages to save on hotels and flights.
