In a step towards advancing sustainable practices in the UAE, cleantech innovator Sparklo has partnered with bottled water leader Mai Dubai to roll out 30 AI-powered Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs), or “Sparklomats,” across five emirates: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, and Ras Al Khaimah.
These machines will be installed in schools, malls, residential areas, and other high-traffic locations to make recycling easier and more rewarding for residents.
Recycling made rewarding
The initiative enables users to return plastic bottles in exchange for Sparklo points, which can be redeemed for rewards — including discounts on Mai Dubai water deliveries starting in May.
The goal is to build a closed-loop recycling system, encouraging sustainable consumer behavior while reducing plastic waste.
Driving the UAE’s green agenda
The partnership supports the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 and Circular Economy Policy by combining innovation with environmental responsibility. The collaboration was officially launched at a ceremony at Mai Dubai’s solar-powered facility, where the first co-branded Sparklomat was unveiled. Sparklo has already collected over 90 million containers across the region, including more than 81 million in the UAE.
“This partnership reflects our mission to bring every bottle back into the economy,” said Maxim Kaplevich, Sparklo’s CEO. “We’re proud to do it in our home market with a partner that shares our vision.”
“We’re not just hydrating the nation — we’re helping shape a sustainable future,” added Abraham Kah, CEO of Mai Dubai.
