Yango users in the UAE can now rent powerbanks directly through the Yango app, giving residents another option when their phone battery is running low.
The new Yango Power service allows users to scan the QR code on a participating Ray powerbank station, rent a charger and pay through their existing Yango account.
The integration means users do not need to download a separate app, create another account or enter their payment details again.
The service is available through the latest version of the Yango app in the UAE.
600 Ray stations across the UAE
The service connects Yango to Ray’s network of 600 powerbank rental stations across the country.
The stations are located in places including restaurants, shopping destinations and fitness venues. Users can collect a powerbank from a participating station and return it to a compatible station after use.
For people relying on their phones for navigation, payments, transport and communication, the service provides an option when a device is running low on battery while away from home.
“People rely on their phones for everything from getting around the city to communicating, paying and managing their day. Running out of battery can interrupt all of that. With Yango Power, we wanted to make access to a charger as simple as the other everyday services people already use in the Yango app — without asking them to download another application, register again or add another payment method. Yango Power is a natural extension of what we are building: a platform where the everyday infrastructure of the city — transport, navigation, delivery and now power — works together seamlessly,” comments Islam Abdul Karim, Regional Head, Yango Group Middle East.
Powerbank sharing expands in the UAE
The Yango integration is being provided in partnership with Ray, which operates powerbank-sharing services in the UAE and other markets.
“Ray isn’t just a hardware network, underneath it is a platform that lets partners plug their existing apps directly into our stations. Based on this ready-made integration, Yango users can rent a Ray powerbank directly in the Yango SuperApp,” said Roman Averianov, CPO and co-founder of Ray.
Yango said the powerbank service joins its existing urban services, including ride-hailing, delivery, public transport schedules, car rental and navigation.
The company also said it plans to expand Yango Power into other markets where its wider ecosystem operates.
