Union Coop has awarded procurement contracts worth more than Dhs82 million this year to members of the Emirati Suppliers Program, reinforcing its role in supporting local entrepreneurship and boosting the UAE’s small and medium enterprise (SME) sector.

The initiative is part of a wider collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for SME Development, aimed at improving market access for Emirati-owned businesses and enhancing their competitiveness within the national economy.

Focus on local suppliers

Union Coop’s procurement approach prioritizes local suppliers and national products, aligning with broader UAE goals for sustainable development and economic diversification.

“Union Coop’s support for Emirati suppliers is a fundamental part of our corporate social and economic responsibility,” said Mohamed Al Hashemi, CEO of Union Coop.

“Our procurement policy prioritizes national products and local suppliers, in line with the UAE wise leadership’s vision for sustainable development and a knowledge-based economy.”

Ongoing strategic efforts

The supermarket cooperative said the Dhs82 million milestone is part of ongoing efforts to build long-term partnerships with government entities and development bodies to help grow emerging national ventures.

Al Hashemi noted that Union Coop’s contributions over the years have consistently aimed to create meaningful economic opportunities for Emiratis.

Through initiatives like this, Union Coop continues to position itself as a strategic partner in strengthening the UAE’s SME ecosystem and promoting inclusive, sustainable economic progress.
