The UAE Council for Fatwa will convene on Tuesday evening to determine the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah 1446 AH, the Islamic month during which Hajj and Eid Al-Adha takes place.
Public encouraged to observe
The Council has also called on moon-sighting experts, traditional observers, and the general public—both UAE citizens and residents—to try to sight the Dhul-Hijjah crescent after sunset on Tuesday.
The final decision will inform the official start of Dhul-Hijjah and the dates of key Islamic observances, including Eid Al-Adha.
Committee to review data
The meeting will take place at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi on May 27, corresponding to 29 Dhul-Qa’dah 1446 AH. It will be led by Shaykh Abdullah bin Al Shaykh Al-Mahfouz bin Bayyah, Chairman of the UAE Council for Fatwa, and attended by Dr. Omar Habtoor Al-Darei, Vice Chairman of the Council, along with experts in Islamic law, legal studies, and astronomy.
The committee will review data from national observatories and institutions, including astronomical calculations related to the moon’s birth, conjunction, and visibility. Observations will be analysed after sunset using advanced technology and smart instruments.
