The Supreme Committee for Development of Hatta, chaired by Mattar Al Tayer, has completed a series of development projects aimed at improving community facilities and tourism in the region.
Places to visit in Hatta
The projects include the Hatta Dam Amphitheatre, a fully serviced school, and a prototype housing unit in Makan. New outdoor amenities were also added, including a 15-kilometre mountain biking trail, a 10-kilometre hiking trail, and the development of three farms: Strawberry Farm, Hatta Farm, and Leafy Greens Farm.
Hatta Dam Amphitheatre
The 610-metre Hatta Dam Amphitheatre provides an accessible route to the top of the dam, with six rest areas along a 37-metre ascent that takes around 17 minutes to complete. The design accommodates People of Determination and uses suspended-structure techniques to preserve the natural landscape. Visitors can also access the Hatta Waterfalls via a connected pathway.
A mosaic mural on the dam slope, made from over 1.2 million pieces of natural marble, depicts the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The waterfalls flow into a channel lined with retail outlets, cafés, and restaurants.
New school and sustainability measures
The new school spans 18,600 square metres and accommodates more than 1,000 students. It features 44 classrooms, learning laboratories, indoor sports halls, playgrounds covering 4,700 square metres, a 416-seat theatre, a kindergarten, and a medical clinic. Parking includes spaces for 14 buses and 52 vehicles, including four for electric cars.
Sustainability measures include 474 solar panels generating up to 280 kilowatts, sensor-operated water taps, solar-powered water heating, and thermal insulation to improve energy efficiency.
Development plan and community impact
These projects are part of the Hatta Comprehensive Development Plan, which aims to enhance quality of life, improve services, and promote Hatta as a year-round destination. Mobility solutions and visitor services have been upgraded to provide residents and tourists with improved access and experiences across the region.
