Etihad Rail has completed its first passenger station in Fujairah ahead of the planned launch of UAE passenger train services later this year.

The new station, located in the Madinat Al Hilal area, covers 51,900 square metres and will connect Fujairah with Abu Dhabi and Dubai as part of the UAE’s national railway network.

Station details

According to Etihad Rail, the station is located close to several major landmarks in Fujairah. It is around 12 minutes from Fujairah International Airport, six minutes from Umbrella Beach Corniche and five minutes from Sakamkam Fort.

Adhraa Al Mansoori, Executive Director of Commercial for Etihad Rail, said the station is expected to support economic activity and improve passenger transport within the emirate.

Travel times

Passenger trains between Fujairah and Abu Dhabi will take around 105 minutes, with trains travelling at speeds of up to 200 km/h.

Each train will accommodate up to 400 passengers.

Etihad Rail said the first phase of passenger operations will include three routes connecting Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Fujairah. Travel schedules are expected to be announced closer to the official launch date.

Passenger services

The station includes waiting areas, retail outlets, automated payment machines and a passenger service office.

Passengers will also have access to high-speed Wi-Fi, VIP lounges and onboard dining services.

Local suppliers

Al Mansoori said 70 per cent of the materials used in the national railway project were sourced locally through 97 UAE-based suppliers.

The passenger rail project is part of the UAE’s plans to expand public transport and improve connectivity between emirates.
