flydubai has opened applications for its Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering Apprenticeship, offering young Emiratis a pathway into technical aviation careers through a fully sponsored four-year programme.

The apprenticeship is open to UAE Nationals aged 17 to 24 and is part of flydubai’s broader National Development programme. Candidates will receive both theoretical instruction and practical training through the airline’s Maintenance and Engineering department.

Upon successful completion, apprentices may become certified Aircraft Technicians, licensed by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

Certification and career path

The programme is conducted under flydubai’s GCAA CAR 147 Approved Maintenance Training Organisation Certification, allowing the airline to deliver in-house technical education aligned with aviation industry standards.

“At flydubai, we remain committed to investing in the development of UAE National talent and creating opportunities for the next generation to build long-term careers in aviation,” said Nasser Binkherbash, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at flydubai.

He added: “The GCAA CAR 147 Approved Maintenance Training Organisation Certification has enabled us to run inhouse training and certification programmes that build a pool of qualified homegrown talent to support our ambitious growth plans.”

Apprentices who pass the theoretical phase and meet internal standards will move on to hands-on training with operational aircraft. Trainees will maintain a formal logbook to track their progress.

Graduates will be eligible to apply for the GCAA Basic Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence (AMEL) and may be offered full-time positions as certified Aircraft Technicians with flydubai.

Focus on national talent

“The successful enrolment of the first batch has reaffirmed the importance of this initiative in bridging the gap between education and industry,” Binkherbash said. “With the new batch, we look forward to welcoming new apprentices who are passionate about engineering and innovation, and who are ready to support flydubai’s growing fleet.”

The initiative adds to flydubai’s existing development programmes for Emiratis, including its Cadet Pilot Programme, Ab Initio Pilot Training, and various internship opportunities. Applications for the new apprenticeship intake open in September 2025.
