Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will introduce six new dedicated bus and taxi lanes covering 13 kilometres, increasing the total length of dedicated lanes to 20 kilometres.

The expansion aims to cut travel time by 41%, improve bus arrival times by 42%, and boost ridership by 10%, helping ease traffic congestion on major routes.

Dubai bus system expadns

The announcement comes as Dubai’s public bus system continues to expand. The network now covers 88% of the city’s urban areas. Over the past year, buses carried 188 million riders—an 8% increase from the previous year.

With 1,390 buses running on 187 routes, the system completes about 11,000 trips daily, covering 333,000 kilometres and serving over 500,000 commuters each day.

RTA is committed to making public transport the first choice for daily commutes,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA.

Our goal is to strengthen connections between residential, commercial, and industrial zones while ensuring seamless integration with the Dubai Metro, tram, and taxi networks,” he added.

Focus on high-demand areas

In 2024, the RTA introduced nine express bus routes, nine new metro link services, and four additional taxi routes to better serve high-demand areas. The authority also continues to make route adjustments based on data analysis and passenger feedback.
