In a significant moment for India–Middle East relations, Ms. Alisha Moopen, Managing Director and Group CEO of Aster DM Healthcare, met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The meeting underscored the growing synergy between India and the Gulf region, particularly in sectors like healthcare and innovation.
‘Incredibly inspiring’
“It was incredibly inspiring to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jeddah,” said Ms. Moopen. “Every time you meet him you are reminded of the pride and potential of being a part of the Indian diaspora.”
Ms. Moopen’s meeting with PM Modi reflects the expanding influence and engagement of Indian business leaders in the Gulf. Aster DM Healthcare, founded by her father, Dr. Azad Moopen, has long been a bridge between India and the GCC in the healthcare sector.
“His vision for strengthening ties between India and the Middle East, especially with nations like Saudi Arabia and the UAE, is truly empowering,” she added. “As an organization founded by my father – Dr. Azad Moopen who came from India and built Aster in the GCC, witnessing this deepening relationship is humbling.”
Economic cooperation
Prime Minister Modi’s visit focused on fostering greater economic cooperation and building partnerships across critical sectors, with healthcare high on the agenda. According to Ms. Moopen, the Prime Minister’s message struck a chord.
“The Prime Minister’s emphasis on peace, prosperity, and global collaboration resonated deeply with us,” she said. “We are excited to contribute meaningfully to the evolving healthcare ecosystem in Saudi Arabia and the region.”
This engagement further highlights India’s strategic presence in global dialogues. “This visit reaffirms the growing importance of India in global conversations, particularly in areas like healthcare, innovation, and economic development,” Ms. Moopen concluded.
The meeting stands as a symbol of shared ambitions between India and the Gulf, and of the Indian diaspora’s role in shaping a future of mutual growth and cooperation.
