Nearly one in four women across the GCC experience urinary or fecal incontinence, a health issue often left unspoken due to stigma but one that significantly affects daily life, work, and wellbeing.
In response, Abu Dhabi will host the region’s first Middle East urological conference from September 17 to 20, 2025, bringing global and regional attention to this growing concern.
Focus on continence care
The conference, ICS-EUS 2025, is a collaboration between the International Continence Society (ICS) and the Emirates Urological Society (EUS). It aims to promote culturally sensitive, patient-first approaches to continence care and will spotlight the latest innovations in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Experts say rising rates of diabetes, obesity, prostate conditions, and neurological disorders are driving the regional increase in incontinence. In the UAE alone, nearly 30% of adults are obese and over 17% live with diabetes—factors that significantly raise the risk of urinary issues, particularly in women.
Workshops and digital tools
ICS-EUS 2025 will offer hands-on workshops, expert-led roundtables, and technical lectures tailored for urologists, gynecologists, geriatricians, nurses, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals. Delegates will also examine how digital tools like AI-based diagnostics and mobile monitoring are transforming continence care.
“ICS-EUS is more than a scientific meeting—it’s a chance to break the silence around incontinence, reduce stigma, and bring practical solutions to patients’ lives,” said Dr. John Heesakkers, General Secretary of ICS.
EUS will host eight specialist sessions, including four hands-on workshops and four roundtables, covering key urology fields such as Andrology, Urolithiasis, Uro-Oncology, and Urotechnology. These aim to offer practical mentorship in addition to scientific content.
“ICS-EUS 2025 offers a unique opportunity for clinicians to gain insights, exchange best practices, and connect with both regional and international peers,” said Dr. Yasser Saeedi, President of EUS.
