Abu Dhabi has secured the top spot in the 2024 global ranking of safest cities, as revealed by the online database Numbeo.
Abu Dhabi, along with Ajman, Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah, has demonstrated its commitment to safety, with three other UAE emirates making it to the top six cities worldwide.

According to Numbeo’s safety index (86.8) and crime levels (13.1), Abu Dhabi outshone all other cities. Conversely, Caracas in Venezuela had the highest crime index at 82.2, with a safety index of 17.8. The crime index assesses the overall crime levels in a city or country, with 329 cities ranked by Numbeo.
Numbeo classifies crime levels below 20 as very low, between 20 and 40 as low, 40 to 60 as moderate, 60 to 80 as high, and levels exceeding 80 as very high. The safety index operates in reverse, with a high safety index indicating a very safe city among the 331 cities assessed.
Abu Dhabi Police officials celebrated the city’s eighth consecutive ranking as the safest globally, attributing it to the emirate’s dedication to implementing top-notch security standards and improving the quality of life for citizens, residents, and visitors.
Abu Dhabi’s outstanding safety and security levels
Major-General Staff Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, emphasized that the city’s outstanding safety and security levels have significantly contributed to its appeal. He highlighted the importance of trust in safety and stability, noting that it fosters positive interactions and effective cooperation across various sectors.

Major-General Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Police, credited the Emirate’s top-ranking to leadership support, emphasizing the commitment to security. He noted investments in training future leaders, innovative policing, advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, and collaboration with stakeholders and the community to ensure enduring safety and security.
