Sharjah International Airport is set to recruit 150 passport control officers in three phases starting October, creating new employment opportunities as the airport continues to expand.
The recruitment plan was approved by the Sharjah Executive Council during its weekly meeting on Tuesday. The move comes as the airport sees growth in passenger and flight numbers and continues to expand its facilities and operations.
The initiative will also support efforts to provide more career opportunities for Emirati talent, with the new recruits expected to gain experience and develop their skills in the aviation sector.
New opportunities as airport expands
The recruitment comes at a time when Sharjah International Airport is handling growing passenger traffic and undergoing development projects.
The additional passport control officers are expected to help support airport operations as flight and passenger numbers increase.
The three-phase recruitment programme will begin in October.
The Executive Council also approved a new “Khatwa” (Step) licence for university and higher education students.
The initiative will allow students to carry out economic activities, develop business ideas and turn them into small ventures while gaining practical experience in managing projects.
The programme aims to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation among students and could also contribute to the growth of small and medium-sized businesses and the creation of new jobs.
6,700 housing requests approved
Separately, the Council welcomed the approval of 6,700 housing support requests submitted by citizens to the Sharjah Department of Housing.
The housing measures are aimed at supporting family stability and improving living conditions for Emirati families.
The Council also reviewed a comprehensive update of Sharjah’s GDP estimates, which is intended to provide a broader and more accurate picture of the emirate’s economy and its different sectors.
