Organic products are seeing steady growth in the UAE retail market as more consumers pay attention to healthier food choices and product quality, according to Union Coop CEO Mohamed Al Hashemi.
Organic demand grows
Al Hashemi said the organic products segment has become one of the fastest-growing areas in retail, driven by greater health awareness and changing consumer preferences.
He said Union Coop has expanded its organic product range and increased the space allocated to these products across its branches. The retailer has also added more options to serve different customer groups.
According to Al Hashemi, sales of organic products continue to record steady annual growth, indicating a shift in consumer buying habits.
Supplier checks
Union Coop requires organic product suppliers to meet several conditions, including holding accredited organic certifications recognised in the UAE and GCC.
The retailer also checks product traceability across the supply chain, supply continuity and the supplier’s ability to maintain required quality standards.
Quality monitoring
Al Hashemi said Union Coop reviews organic certification documents when suppliers are registered and renews them periodically. The company also carries out ongoing audits in line with UAE regulatory requirements.
“Consumer trust begins with confidence in product quality.”
He said food safety and product quality remain key priorities, with the retailer applying international quality assurance and monitoring practices.
Union Coop plans to continue expanding its organic product range as demand for healthier and more sustainable food choices increases.
