His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved two development projects designed to improve traffic flow in the emirate.

Sharjah Ring Road upgrade

The first project will upgrade a 5-kilometre section of the Sharjah Ring Road near the Etihad Rail station, with a budget of Dhs 90 million. The initiative aims to reduce congestion on Mleiha Road. As part of the project, the University City Bridge will be expanded to four lanes—two lanes in each direction—to enhance connectivity towards Rakan Bridge.

New Martyrs’ Monument bridge

The second project involves constructing a new bridge near the Martyrs’ Monument at a cost of Dhs 60 million. The bridge will provide a direct route for vehicles traveling from Mleiha Road to Mohamed bin Zayed Road, as well as from Sheikh Khalifa Street towards Mleiha Road. The design will combine modern engineering with aesthetic elements to enhance the area’s appearance.

Officials say the projects reflect Sharjah’s commitment to advancing infrastructure to meet the demands of its growing population and urban development. The developments are expected to improve traffic efficiency, reduce congestion, increase safety, and shorten travel times across key routes in the emirate.
