HM Alchahine wins UAE President’s Cup in Hamburg

French-trained Purebred Arabian HM Alchahine claimed a decisive victory in the seventh leg of the UAE President’s Cup series on Sunday at Hamburg’s Horner Rennbahn.

The event was held alongside Germany’s 156th Derby and attracted nearly 30,000 spectators.

Record-setting race in Germany

The 1,600-metre race offered a record purse of €250,000, making it the richest Arabian race in German history. HM Alchahine, a four-year-old gelding owned by Helal Alalawi (France), completed the course in 1:45.42 under jockey Cristian Demuro and trainer Jean-François Bernard. It marked the horse’s second win in the series following a victory in the Italian leg.

Al Wakrah, owned by Al Shaqab Racing and trained by Jean-Loup de Mieulle, finished second. Al Zeer, trained by François Rohaut and owned by Mohamed Fahad A.H. Al-Attiyah, came in third.

Support for Arabian heritage

The UAE President’s Cup is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. Now in its 32nd year, the series promotes the global presence of Purebred Arabian horses, a key part of Emirati culture.

The race was attended by Dr. Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor of Hamburg, UAE Ambassador to Germany H.E. Ahmed Al Attar, and H.E. Faisal Al Rahmani, General Secretary of the Higher Organizing Committee.

“The outstanding organisation, strong participation, and warm reception all reflect the UAE’s growing impact on the global Arabian horse racing scene, a vision driven forward by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed,” said Al Rahmani.

He added, “The UAE President’s Cup continues to act as a cultural bridge, introducing European and global audiences to the history, values, and noble legacy of Purebred Arabian horses.”
