Many residents are eager to know when is Eid Al Adha 2025 in the UAE. While the exact dates for religious events are officially announced by the relevant authorities, astronomical calculations can provide us with an early indication of when Eid might fall.
Eid Al Adha 2025 date
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, the Chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society and a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, has shared some key insights into the timing of the crescent moon for Dhu Al Hijjah, the Islamic month leading up to Eid Al Adha. According to Al Jarwan, the crescent moon marking the start of Dhu Al Hijjah will be born on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 7:02 AM UAE time.
Later that day, as the sun sets, the moon will be about 12 hours old and visible for approximately 38 minutes after sunset. This means that the crescent moon is likely to be seen on the evening of May 27, signaling the beginning of Dhu Al Hijjah.
As a result, the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah will likely be Wednesday, May 28, 2025, and Eid Al Adha, which falls on the 10th of Dhu Al Hijjah, is expected to be on Friday, June 6, 2025, based on these astronomical calculations.
However, it’s important to note that the exact dates of religious holidays like Eid Al Adha are ultimately determined by the UAE’s competent authorities. The Islamic calendar is based on lunar cycles, and sightings of the crescent moon are crucial for confirming the start of significant months such as Dhu Al Hijjah.
Eid Al Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most important holidays for Muslims around the world. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command, a story that is shared in both Islamic and Judeo-Christian traditions.
For the people of the UAE, this occasion is not just a time for religious observance but also an opportunity to come together with family and friends, share meals, and give back to those in need.
