Union Coop has outlined the measures it uses to maintain the quality and daily availability of fresh fruits and vegetables across its stores, highlighting its supply chain management, food safety procedures, and technology-driven inventory planning.

Mr. Mohamed Al Hashemi, CEO of Union Coop, said maintaining the quality of fruits and vegetables and ensuring their daily availability remain among the cooperative’s top priorities.

He said Union Coop operates an integrated supply chain management system that uses advanced technologies to deliver fresh produce to customers while maintaining quality.

According to Al Hashemi, Union Coop follows strict procedures when receiving fresh produce at its distribution centres and branches in line with international food safety standards. These include implementing the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system, carrying out regular laboratory tests, and working with independent auditing entities to verify product quality and safety before products are placed on sale.

Al Hashemi said the cooperative replenishes fresh produce regularly across its branches to help maintain freshness and ensure daily availability. He added that artificial intelligence is used for demand forecasting and inventory management to improve stock availability while reducing product loss and food waste.

He said Union Coop sources products from local farms as well as suppliers in Jordan, Spain, Morocco and Türkiye to ensure year-round availability despite seasonal changes and to strengthen supply chain resilience.

Al Hashemi said reducing food waste is a key part of Union Coop’s sustainability strategy through intelligent demand planning, continuous inventory rotation and employee training based on international best practices in fresh produce management.

He added that supporting local production, diversifying supply sources and investing in advanced technologies contribute to strengthening national food security and ensuring the year-round availability of fresh, safe and high-quality products.
