Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced the commencement of regular international flights between Skardu and Dubai, starting this Monday.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will operate two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays. The inaugural departure from Skardu to Dubai is scheduled for April 29, with the first arrival in Dubai on May 4.
Dubai to Skardu flights
This initiative follows a significant development last year when a total of 11 flights were conducted between Skardu and Dubai on various occasions. Skardu airport was designated as “international” in December 2021 by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, making it the sole airport in northern Pakistan capable of accommodating larger aircraft.
Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, confirmed PIA’s plans to commence regular flights between Skardu and Dubai. The increased accessibility is anticipated to boost tourism in Skardu and its picturesque surroundings renowned for their natural beauty.
Raja Nasir Ali Khan, GB Minister for Planning and Development, held discussions with PIA’s chief commercial officer Nausherwan Adil to explore strategies for enhancing air connectivity and promoting tourism.
They agreed to augment flight frequencies from Dubai to Skardu and introduce direct special flights from Skardu to Najaf and Damascus for pilgrims. Furthermore, they discussed the possibility of initiating direct Hajj and Umrah flights from Skardu airport, aiming to benefit local residents and bolster international tourism, thereby positively impacting the local economy.
