If the head of the family is facing legal issues and other family members are also overstaying their visas, the situation can be addressed in specific ways. Notably, if the mother is employed, she can sponsor her children to rectify their residency status.
This is part of a grace period that allows individuals to correct their residency issues without facing financial penalties or administrative obstacles. This grace period is set to last until October 30, 2024.
Options for families facing residency issues
The ICP provides guidance for families in complicated situations. If the head of the family is either a wanted person or an overstayer, the family members have two main options: they can either leave the country or take steps to correct their residency status based on their circumstances.
If the family decides to leave, the residency permits for all family members will be cancelled, and they can exit the country without incurring any fines before the end of this month. On the other hand, if the family wants to stay, the mother can take the lead in sponsoring her children’s residency, provided she is employed or meets specific work visa criteria.
Additionally, if the head of the family applies for a new visa, the residency status of the family members under his sponsorship will remain valid.
The ICP strongly encourages all overstayers in the UAE to utilize this grace period to resolve their status before it ends on October 30, 2024. It is important to note that any fines incurred prior to the beginning of this grace period, which started on September 1, will be reinstated after this period ends.
By understanding these regulations and taking timely action, families can secure their residency in the UAE more effectively.
