Dubai welcomed nearly 7 million international overnight visitors in the first eight months of 2026, while hotel occupancy climbed sharply from earlier in the year, signalling renewed momentum for the emirate’s tourism sector ahead of Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2026.

The latest figures from the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) show that around 6.97 million international visitors arrived between January and August, including approximately 869,000 visitors in August alone.

Hotel occupancy reached 66% in August, up significantly from 36% in March. Dubai’s hotel sector also recorded 21.61 million occupied room nights during the first eight months of the year.

Dubai tourism growth reflected in hotel occupancy

The Dubai tourism sector has seen a steady improvement since March, with monthly international visitor numbers recording double-digit growth and hotel occupancy rising alongside demand.

By the end of August, Dubai’s hotel inventory had approached 149,000 rooms, despite a number of properties beginning major renovation projects aimed at upgrading guest facilities.

The August occupancy figure stood at 89% of the level recorded in August 2025, according to DET.

The combination of rising occupancy, substantial room inventory and more than 21 million occupied room nights highlights the scale of Dubai’s hospitality market as the emirate enters the final months of 2026.

Dubai welcomed 6.97 million international visitors by August

International arrivals have remained geographically diverse, helping Dubai maintain a broad base of tourism demand.

Western Europe was the largest source region between January and August, accounting for 20% of visitors. South Asia followed with 17%, while the GCC contributed 16% and CIS and Eastern Europe accounted for 14%.

For travellers and tourism businesses, the diversity of Dubai’s visitor base reduces reliance on a single international market and gives hotels, attractions and travel companies opportunities to target demand across established and emerging destinations.

Arabian Travel Market 2026 opens in Dubai

The latest tourism figures come as Dubai prepares to host the 33rd edition of Arabian Travel Market, running from September 14 to 17 at Dubai World Trade Centre.

DET is participating alongside more than 115 co-exhibitors representing Dubai’s tourism ecosystem, including hotels, attractions, destination management companies, aviation partners and government entities.

The event is expected to give Dubai tourism businesses an opportunity to strengthen relationships with international travel companies and promote new products and experiences.

More than 300 international travel trade professionals from over 40 countries are also taking part in DET’s ATM Hosted Buyers Programme.

What Dubai is promoting to global travellers

At ATM 2026, Dubai is highlighting a tourism offering that extends beyond traditional leisure travel.

The destination is showcasing its hospitality, gastronomy, culture, entertainment, wellness, family experiences and accessibility initiatives, alongside sustainability programmes such as Dubai Sustainable Tourism and Dubai Can.

DET is also continuing efforts to improve accessibility for autistic and sensory-sensitive visitors, while strengthening Dubai’s international connectivity and travel trade partnerships.

Dubai tourism strategy focuses on diverse markets

DET has continued international campaigns, market briefings, roadshows and partnerships throughout 2026 as it seeks to maintain Dubai’s visibility among travellers and strengthen future demand.

One recent initiative, A Dubai Invite, encouraged residents to invite family and friends to visit the emirate. More than 90,000 residents applied for benefits through the programme, with participants representing almost 200 nationalities.

The initiative forms part of a wider effort to use Dubai’s highly international resident population as an additional channel for promoting the destination.

Dhs2.5 billion package supported tourism sector

Dubai’s tourism industry has also received direct government support during a period of regional uncertainty.

Earlier in 2026, the Dubai Government announced an Dhs 2.5 billion support package for the tourism, hospitality and entertainment sectors.

Connectivity has also been recovering, with Emirates restoring 97% of its global network, while Dubai International Airport (DXB) has seen load factors strengthen towards 2025 levels.

What the latest Dubai tourism figures show

The latest data point to a tourism sector that has regained momentum during 2026. International visitor numbers reached 6.97 million by August, while hotel occupancy rose from 36% in March to 66% in August.

With ATM 2026 bringing international travel industry representatives to Dubai and the emirate continuing to expand and upgrade its tourism offering, the focus for the remainder of the year is on converting that momentum into sustained demand across hotels, attractions, aviation and the wider visitor economy.
