Interest in UAE vehicle number plates is rising, with views of plate listings on dubizzle up 13.4% month-on-month, as buyers increasingly turn their attention to shorter and rarer numbers.

The latest dubizzle data, covering listings across all seven emirates, shows a clear split in the market: 4- and 5-digit plates attract the largest overall audience, while 2- and 3-digit plates are seeing some of the fastest growth in interest.

UAE number plate demand is shifting towards rarity

Dubai remains the largest market by overall viewing activity. Views of 5-digit plates increased 13% month-on-month, while 4-digit plates recorded a 10% rise.

But shorter numbers are gaining attention faster. Views of 3-digit plates in Dubai jumped 33% over the same period.

The shift is even more pronounced in Abu Dhabi. Although 5-digit plates remained the most-viewed category, views fell 6.6%. Meanwhile, interest in 2-digit plates surged 86%, while 3-digit plate views rose 41%.

Which emirates are seeing the biggest increases?

Growth was also recorded in several Northern Emirates.

  • Fujairah saw views of 5-digit plates rise 87%.
  • Ras Al Khaimah recorded a 50% increase in views for 4-digit plates.
  • Sharjah saw 4-digit plate views increase 47%.

The figures measure ad views rather than completed sales, so they show where browsing interest is increasing rather than confirming that more plates were sold.

Why are rare number plates attracting attention?

Vehicle plates in the UAE can have significance beyond their basic function as vehicle identifiers. Shorter or distinctive combinations can appeal to buyers because of their perceived rarity, personal meaning or social significance.

That helps explain why the categories with fewer digits are attracting some of the fastest growth in views, even though 4- and 5-digit plates continue to generate higher overall browsing volumes.

Sherif Magdy, Director of Sales, dubizzle Cars, said: “Vehicle plates occupy a unique position in the UAE’s automotive culture. Beyond their practical purpose, distinctive numbers can carry a strong sense of identity, prestige and personal significance. Our latest data shows that this appeal is translating into growing interest in some of the market’s rarest numbers, with 2- and 3-digit plates recording some of the strongest month-on-month growth across several emirates. It is a clear indication that, when it comes to vehicle plates, rarity continues to command attention.”

What the latest plate data means for buyers and sellers

The figures suggest that the UAE number plate market is not moving in one direction.

For buyers looking for more widely available plates, 4- and 5-digit numbers remain the categories attracting the greatest volume of views. At the same time, the sharp increases in interest for 2- and 3-digit plates indicate growing attention towards rare combinations.

For sellers, the data suggests that the number itself can be an important factor in attracting potential buyers. However, the figures do not provide sale prices or confirm how much individual plates are changing in value.

Overall, the latest data points to growing interest in UAE number plates, particularly where scarcity and distinctive combinations are involved.
