ADNOC Distribution has announced the opening of a major electric vehicle charging hub on the Abu Dhabi–Dubai highway, alongside plans to expand fast-charging infrastructure across the UAE’s national road network by the end of 2027.

The announcement was made ahead of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which brings together government officials and industry leaders to discuss energy transition and sustainable infrastructure.

Highway charging hub

The new EV charging hub is located at Saih Shuaib on the E11 highway, one of the country’s busiest intercity routes. The site includes 60 superfast charging points and can charge most electric vehicles from 0 to 80 per cent in around 20 minutes.

According to ADNOC Distribution, the site is the largest superfast EV charging hub in the Middle East, Africa and Turkey, and the sixth largest globally.

As part of its expansion roadmap, ADNOC Distribution plans to develop 20 EV charging hubs across UAE highways by the end of 2027. Fifteen of these are expected to be operational by the end of 2026.

The company said the network aims to support long-distance EV travel and improve charging access on key national highways as electric vehicle adoption increases.

Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, said: “The inauguration of ADNOC Distribution’s EV Megahub is a significant step in implementing the UAE’s National Electric Vehicles Policy and advancing our vision for sustainable mobility across the nation. This hub stands out for its strategic location on the E11 highway, one of the country’s most vital corridors, providing integrated services for road users and intercity commuters.”

He added: “Expanding the high-speed charging network is central to our strategy to cut energy consumption in transport and drive the transformational ‘Global EV Market’ initiative, which aims to see electric vehicles represent 50% of all cars on UAE roads by 2050. These efforts are not just about infrastructure, they accelerate the nation’s transition to a green mobility ecosystem and set new global benchmarks for smart, sustainable transport.”

Eng. Bader Saeed Al Lamki, CEO of ADNOC Distribution, said: “ADNOC Distribution has powered journeys since 1973 and today, we are building the future of mobility with the UAE’s largest superfast EV charging hub. Our first EV Mega hub is strategically located along a vital highway that keeps our nation moving and is also the first The Hub by ADNOC location dedicated to the specific needs of inter-city commuters. As more consumers choose electric vehicles, we are redefining convenience to ensure they can travel confidently across the country, supported by our growing E2GO network.”

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has set a target for battery-electric vehicles to account for 50 per cent of all cars on UAE roads by 2050.

ADNOC Distribution is supporting this goal through its E2GO charging network, which currently includes more than 400 charging points nationwide. The company plans to increase this number to up to 750 by 2028.

The Saih Shuaib site is also the first commuter-focused location under The Hub by ADNOC brand. The facility is larger than traditional service stations and combines fuel services, EV charging, food outlets and lifestyle amenities.

It is also the first ADNOC Distribution site to include a coworking space, aimed at commuters travelling between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

ADNOC Distribution operates more than 560 service stations across the UAE and said its expansion plans are designed to scale EV infrastructure in line with rising demand and national electrification goals.
