Thailand is planning a wide range of Countdown 2026 celebrations across the country, offering visitors alternatives to the usual New Year events in Bangkok.
The programme includes activities in historic towns, mountain destinations and regional centres, giving travellers from the Middle East more options to experience the holiday season in different settings.
While Bangkok remains the main hub for New Year celebrations, several provinces are preparing their own countdown programmes. In western Thailand, Kanchanaburi will host the Countdown Illumination 2026 from December 29 to 31. The event will feature light displays, live performances and fireworks along the river, highlighting the area’s natural surroundings and historical sites.
In northern Thailand, Phitsanulok Countdown 2026 will take place from December 27 to 31 at the plaza outside Central Phitsanulok Shopping Centre. The programme will focus on music and nightly performances aimed at both residents and visitors. Nearby, Sukhothai will hold its Countdown 2026 from December 29 to 31, with celebrations set in one of the country’s most historically significant regions.
Mountain locations are also part of the national celebrations. The Amazing Light and Khao Kho Countdown 2026 is scheduled for December 30 and 31 at Khao Kho Viewpoint in Phetchabun. The event will include illuminated installations and fireworks, with the cooler climate and elevated views offering a different New Year atmosphere.
Further north, Nan will host Countdown 2026 from December 26 through January 4 along Kuang Mueang Nan Walking Street. The extended programme will include cultural performances, markets and community-led activities, continuing beyond New Year’s Eve.
Thailand’s regional Countdown 2026 events aim to spread New Year celebrations across the country, allowing visitors to combine festive activities with local culture, history and natural scenery.
