Dubai International (DXB) is preparing for one of its strongest year-end travel periods, with more than 10 million passengers expected between 27 November and 31 December.

December alone is forecast to see over 8.7 million travellers, making it the airport’s busiest month on record. Passenger numbers are set to pass 300,000 a day, with 20 December projected to be the peak day at 303,000.

Travel trends

Outbound travel is expected to rise ahead of the UAE National Day long weekend as residents take short breaks. From mid-December, inbound traffic is set to increase sharply as visitors arrive for Dubai’s festive season events.

DXB said it is working with airlines, control authorities and service teams under the oneDXB programme to support smoother passenger flow throughout the peak period.

Key travel tips

To help passengers move through the airport more efficiently, DXB has issued the following guidance:

  • Emirates customers can use home check-in, early check-in, self-service options and the city check-in facility at ICD Brookfield Place in DIFC.

  • Arrive at the airport no earlier than three hours before departure and complete online check-in when possible.

  • Families with children aged 12 and above can use Smart Gates to speed up passport control.

  • Emirates First and Business Class passengers departing from Terminal 3 can use the Red Carpet Smart Tunnel for document-free passport checks.

  • Check the latest travel rules for your destination and ensure all documents are ready.

  • Pack spare batteries and power banks in hand luggage only.

  • Only passengers will be allowed inside terminals during peak hours, so farewells should be done in advance.

  • Use Dubai Metro to reach Terminals 1 and 3. Metro timings are usually extended during holidays and peak periods.

  • People of Determination have access to enhanced support, including marked routes, Sunflower Lanyard assistance and an Assisted Travel Lounge in Terminal 2.

  • Stay updated on flight and gate information through DXB Express Maps by scanning the QR code in the terminal.

Airport facilities

DXB reminded travellers that once inside, they can access dining, duty free shopping, hotels and lounges across the terminals while waiting for their flights.
