Salik, Dubai’s toll operator, has started installing two new toll gates as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve traffic management. The new gates, located at strategic points, are set to become operational by November 2024.
New Salik gates in Dubai
The first toll gate will be placed at the Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Street. The second gate will be situated on Sheikh Zayed Road, positioned between Al Meydan and Umm Al Sheif Streets. These additions are aligned with the completion of the Al Khail Road Improvement Project, which is expected to enhance traffic flow in the area.

Salik’s new gates are designed to address traffic congestion and streamline the movement of vehicles in key areas. The Business Bay Crossing Gate is projected to reduce congestion on Al Khail Street by 12-15% and alleviate traffic on Rabat Street by 10-16%. It will also help redistribute traffic to Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges, as well as Ras Al Khor Street.
Integration with existing toll gates
The new Safa South Gate will integrate with the existing Safa North Gate, ensuring that drivers are only charged once if they pass through both gates within one hour in the same direction. This system is similar to the one implemented at the Al Mamzar North and South Gates.
The integration aims to improve the overall efficiency of the toll system and reduce costs for frequent users traveling in the same direction.
Strategic impact and revenue growth
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has emphasized that the new toll gates are part of a broader strategic plan to enhance road networks and public transport services. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, highlighted the ongoing expansion and diversification efforts by Salik.

In the second quarter of 2024, Salik reported a 1.2% increase in revenue-generating trips, reaching 115.7 million trips—a 1.6% year-on-year growth. This marks the highest number of trips recorded for this period since the company’s inception. The growth is attributed to continued business and tourism activity in Dubai, with notable performance improvements at various toll gates, including a 10% increase at Jebel Ali Gate.
The introduction of these new toll gates reflects Dubai’s commitment to enhancing its transportation infrastructure and managing traffic more effectively. As the gates become operational later this year, they are expected to contribute significantly to reducing traffic congestion and improving road efficiency across the city.
