As the summer heat fades, UAE residents are embracing the opportunity to explore new destinations this autumn. According to a recent survey about autumn travel behaviours by Skyscanner, a staggering 90% of UAE travellers are likely to travel for leisure during the autumn months, with many opting for unique experiences outside the usual holiday season.

Cost savings drive autumn getaways

The survey, conducted by OnePoll, highlights that 73% of travellers are motivated by cooler weather, making autumn a perfect time for those seeking relief from the UAE heat.

Additionally, 52% of respondents emphasised lower travel costs as a key factor in their decision to travel during this period. With fewer crowds and the potential for off-peak savings, UAE travellers are taking advantage of quieter and more affordable autumn getaways.

Nature and wellness in high demand

UAE travellers are increasingly prioritising nature and outdoor activities during their autumn trips, with 72% of respondents expressing interest in destinations that offer hiking, scenic landscapes, and wildlife experiences. Relaxation and wellness retreats are also highly sought-after, with 70% of travellers choosing to recharge in tranquil environments, such as wellness resorts or sleep tourism destinations.

Hidden Gems

Autumn offers a unique opportunity to explore off-the-beaten-path locations, with 48% of respondents considering these destinations “very important” when planning their trips.

Top choices for UAE travellers include Tbilisi (36%), Porto (30%), and Tasmania (28%). Travelers are also drawn to festivals and events, with 47% showing interest in destinations that host cultural celebrations, music festivals, and nature events during the autumn months.

Sustainable and trendy travel experiences

An impressive 71% of respondents are aware of growing trends such as sustainable travel and eco-tourism, with destinations like Costa Rica and Norway gaining popularity. Additionally, there’s increasing interest in sleep tourism, where travellers seek wellness retreats aimed at improving sleep quality, as well as gig tripping, where music festivals and major events shape travel itineraries.

Autumn festivals

When it comes to festivals, 84% of UAE travellers say they are likely to choose a destination based on autumn festivals or events. Popular autumn festival types include outdoor activities and nature events (41%) and music and arts festivals (19%). Moreover, 52% of respondents prefer destinations with cooler weather over warmer climates, signalling a shift in travel behaviour as UAE residents seek refreshing autumn escapes.

Despite the excitement of autumn travel, 42% of respondents noted that price remains the most critical factor when booking flights. Interestingly, 44% said their budget for autumn travel is lower compared to summer peak months, indicating that many are seeking affordable yet rewarding travel experiences during the autumn season.
